
Owens Pottery
The Owens Pottery Company, Zanesville, OH was founded by John Bartle Owens II. John
started making pottery in Roseville, Ohio in the early 1880's. He built a stoneware
factory in Zanesville, Ohio. The company was named the J.B. Owens Pottery Company and
made art pottery from 1896 until 1907 and produced over 48 distinct
art pottery lines.. Owens manufactured high quality pottery with a
unique glaze for each line.
The company is important for its own pottery and the many well known potters and artists
who also made their marks in other pottery companies. The art pottery produced by Owens
won many national awards. Three of the most famous of these potters and artists were:
* Frank I. Ferrell (designer of Roseville's Pine Cone line)
* William A. Long (designer of Weller's Lonhuda and Louwelsa lines)
* George S. Brush (Co-Owner of Brush McCoy)
